Designer v Decorator

I went to school for four years to chase my childhood dreams of being a designer. I worked hard and learned a lot in my four years at an accredited university. I learned about a lot more than color combinations and fluffing pillows. I learned about codes, standards, space planning, safety, green design building, material composition, and other aspects way beyond colors. The CIDA accreditation gives schools‘ design programs a standard. Without this program your putting individuals who don’t have a degree and the knowledge with a four year degree on the same level as individuals who know nothing about codes or public safety. Designers earned their right to be called designers, over decorators, just like architects, doctors, engineers, etc. Don’t take that away from us. Keep the accreditation program going.
