SUPPORT for Continued Licensure of Landscape Architects

As a young career professional I am writing in continued support of the licensure of landscape architects. A major factor in the selection of this profession was the protection of licensure and requirement to meet a set standard for the health, safety, and welfare of the public. Licensed landscape architects fulfill educational training and examination requirements that prepare professionals to protect the public from both physical and monetary harm. Without licensure, universities and the institutions that support the profession would not be as influential or credited with informing future career choices and development of the practice. Leaving the profession to degrade and open to misinformation and malpractice.

Landscape architects are called upon for complex services that require highly technical skills, making it difficult for prospective clients to evaluate the competency of professionals. These services have been highlighted on a global scale in numerous high-profile projects that improve the quality of life for the public and our interaction with the environment around us. Being connected under national organizations such as the American Society of Landscape Architects keeps professionals accountable to uphold the standards of the profession. Without licensure, landscape architects will be unfairly disadvantaged in the marketplace and among collaborating professionals.
