I have worked in Veterinary medicine for over 12 years and am fully committed to this wonderful profession. While both myself and my organization put much value in Veterinary Technology licensure, the numbers simply do not add up to provide enough technical support for our Veterinarians and thus, adequate patient care. With approximately 4,000 DVMs in the state of Virginia and less than 1,000 LVTs, we have had to rely strongly on trained, unliscened professionals for years. Even if passed, this regulation would simply be unenforceable because there are still not enough LVTs in the state to satisfy the requirements. In my professional opinion, this amendment would just reflect and support what is already happening and there will be no adverse effect on the quality of medicine that is already being provided.
