I support the placement of IV catheters by trained unlicensed technicians with the exception of emegent situtations that may require a more experienced technician. As a current veterinary student, I feel that it's important to teach unlicensed technicians that have a strong desire to learn how to place IV catheters. This keeps technicians engaged and excited to learn more. Plus, as long as taught properly, there is minimal risk. Jugular catheters however should be restricted for licensed technicians.
