Dry Needling is another name for acupuncture! Just because you change the name does not mean it is not what it is.
Dry Needling is coded for insurance payment to Medicare/Insurance as Manual Therapy or Accessory Technique. This is fraud as was held up by they AG of Vermont even against an MD that coded for Trigger Point Therapy when he did acupuncture and had to pay back medicare. Thus it is fraud.
Physical Therapy scope of practic does not include invasive techniques that puncture the skin.
Dry Needling was first taught to Physical Therapists by an Acupuncturist (unfortunately).
Physical therapists use acupuncture needles for dry needling. (That explains itself.)
Most injuries caused by an acupuncture needle in the last few years have been done by a Physical Therapist!
