I fully support a PT's ability to perform dry needling. I have been certified since 2009 and have been treating patients since then with no adverse events. As I stated in the subject for my post, no profession can claim a tool or technique for itself. Acupuncturists cannot claim the monofilament used in dry needling as exclusively their own. A PT who performs dry needling should be certified by an approved entity. A practical examination should show proficiency and safety in the technique before he or she can use this technique on patients.
