Throughout the world there are many regulatory associatons regarding acupuncture and the minimum training requirements, generally have to have 4 years undergraduate acupuncture degree, and minimum 3000 hours of clinical training. Although we understand that Physiotherapists are a highly trained specilisation, there are no direct correleation between needling skills and acupuncture points. General practitioners who are more highly regarded in the level of training still need 3 years of study to qualify for acupuncture specialism and 300 hours of clinical training. The idea for a Physiotherapist reducing their training to 2 years and 50 hours clinic, would be considered as an unsafe practice where the physician could not have had substantial training within this time period. It is for this reason i am against the application for Dry needling license for Physiotherapists in a reduced training requirement..
