Abortion is legal in the USA, but only when you have access.
Health decisions should be made in private by patients with their doctors, not by a board of politically appointed individuals. Those attempting to close women’s clinics are motivated by religious belief. Using political maneuvering to impose selective religious values upon an entire population is wrong. An individual’s religious belief should not trump another individual’s right to dominion over her own body; it should not override a woman’s own belief.
Instead of focusing on controversial religious issues, it is time for the Board of Health to focus on its mission “to implement a coordinated, prevention-oriented program that promotes and protects the health of all Virginians.”
Governor McAuliffe has asked the Board to reconsider its recommendations, and I call upon the Board to focus on real issues of health and safety instead of the dimensions of hallways, doorways, and janitorial closets.
