I think that dental assisting schools should be thoroughly researched prior to allowing dental assistants to scale subgingivally. If education is provided regarding this skill, only certified dental assistants who have completed such a course should be given the legal right to provide the service. There would have to be some type of regulation to protect the patients from malpractice.
