Please maintain the new health and safety regulations for abortion facilities.
Virginia Health Department inspections reveal many unsafe and unsanitary conditions such as: 1) doctor doing exams with unwashed hands; 2) fetal remains found at bottom of freezer after contents spilled out of bag; 3) failure to disinfect blood-stained equipment and recovery cots between patients; and 4) splattered, dried blood on exam tables and between cushions.
Common sense regulations include: 1) Maintaining medical equipment, supplies and drugs to manage potential emergencies; 2) Patient rights and patient services such as a process for registering complaints against the abortion facility to the Virginia Department of Health, having a staff member certified to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation on-site for emergency care when abortions are performed; 3) Infection prevention; and 4) Policies and procedures outlining criteria for discharge from anesthesia care.
