It's the New Jim Crow

This move to make it more difficult for people to vote is nothing but politically motivated voter suppression. The level of voter fraud in this country is nearly non-existent because most people can't be bothered to vote at all. In an environment of such apathy, creating additional hurdles to voting and presenting "acceptable" ID will further discourage people from voting at all. A democracy cannot operate effectively when the goal is to keep people from the polls rather than make it as easy as possible to vote. In Australia, voting is manadatory. In the US, we make people jump through unnecessary hoops for the priviledge of voting. This makes no sense and there is not even a pretense that it is anything other than a political device. Voter ID and gerrymandering of districts in Virginia need to be completely overhauled. This is nothing more than Plantation Politics and it's unacceptable in the 21st century.
