I stongly urge you to reject this amendment. I have taught and am currently teaching in Virginia public schools for 18 years. I am also a parent of a past Stafford county graduate who was a full IB diploma graduate. Currently, I have a third grader in Stafford county. As a parent, I trust the professionalism of the teachers and the education system to choose the best material to educate my children. They have the knowledge and degree(s) to best instruct my children. Who am I to enable the stifle of literature or other educational material thus potential learning because it may be sensitive??? Isn't everything "sensitive" to someone?? Wow! This type of amendment will only open a terrible vortex of censorship. What would the children read? Everything has "sensitive" content...even the Bible. By all means, a parent has the right to read the material given to their child and determine if it is appropriate for him or her, but to place such restrictions on everyone is appalling. Please vote no on this amendment. Teachers are already censored enough!
