Amendments Regarding Use of Controversial or Sensitive Instructional Materials

I am contacting you to ask for your support in passing the proposed amendments to the instructional regulations that will require parental notification when controversial or sexually explicit material is used in the classroom. I am a parent of two daughters - one graduated from Virginia's public school system in 2010 and the other is currently a freshman at a Virginia public high school. I also work in a Virginia public elementary school. As both a parent and an employee in Virginia's  public education system, I am concerned about the learning environment. The loss of moral values degrades this environment, making it difficult for the teachers to teach and the students to learn. Careful consideration should be given before this type of material is used, and parents should both be informed prior to its use and be offered alternative instruction for their children if they find the material objectionable. A major problem with education today is the lack of parental involvement. Please don't compound this problem by ignoring the concerns of those parents that do want to be involved. Again, I ask that you support the amendments regarding the use of controversial or sensitive instructional materials. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
