I am a parent and a publoished author. I strongly support requiring schools to notify parents when controversial materials are being presented to children. It is not the school's place to decide, unilaterally, whether a child is exposed to materials that undermine the parent's efforts to raise a responsible, morally upright and civicly sound young adult.
Parent's should be in a position to excuse their children from exposure to materials that the parent, in his or her conscientious judgment as a parent, determinse to be unfit for the child.
A notification requirement is consistent with the principle that parents and teachers are collaborators in educating out children.
