Educators I believe for the greater part understand the need to shield students from obscene material and to communicate with parents about the nature of a text that might challenge cultural, normative, and personal values.  However, not all do, and I have peraonally met several that feel they have rights to expose our children to areas that their parents are not comfortable with.  Are parents not the first educators of our children?  We know our children better and know when they're ready to be exposed to certain types of literare, if ever.  As public citizens, we are asking for the teachers to help our children learn, yet parents must retain the rights to know what our children are being exposed to.  This common sense regulation must be supported as we must support the families to know what is best for our own children, at their individual state in life.  Our taxes are paying these teachers' salaries (as small as they are) and parents should retain the ability to know what is being taught and be able to opt out for their own child's sake.
