The 200+ year precedence in this country has always been that parents, not teachers, administrators, or school boards, have not only the responsibility, but the authority to determine what their children are exposed to in schools and elsewhere. As a parent, if I were to purposely expose my kids to sexually explicit material, I could be put in jail for a variety of counts.
This latest case of the Mrs. Murphy in Fairfax County, where my grandchildren either go to school or will go to school, is appalling.
Why are parents at least notified prior to this type material being introduced is criminal and makes one think that the state is usurping the authority of the parents.
I strongly urge you to put this proposed amendment into the regulation. In addition, I highly recommend you find the perpetrators of this incident reported by Mrs. Murphy and ensure that they are appropriately dealt with to ensure this never happens again.
Sincerely,
Tom Carnahan
