I have always thought that “education” should promote the positive, and moral behavior.  Children can, and will, learn the other without the help of public schools.  I had student teachers that thought it was “cool” to have their students read “questionable” material—if they thought they could get away with it without their cooperating teacher knowing.  There is more “good” material out there than can be taught in a student’s tenure in public schools.  Why even consider anything else?  It is the responsibility of the State Board of Education to determine what is taught in its schools and to set standards.  This is not censorship; it is establishing standards to help in guiding each generation to be a little better than the previous generation.  Any other goals are not productive in improving our culture.  This also is a responsibility of local school boards.
