I would recommend that you reject this proposal for the following reasons:
1. It is redundant and unnecessary. Most, if not all, school divisions already have a procedure in place to address this concern. Based on the VDOE survey results, it was determined that not all school divisions had a process in place. Wouldn't it be simple enough to require all school divisions the develop and implement a process to inform parents of potentially sensitive instructional materials without prescribing how this must be addressed?
2. This issue should be addressed at the local level. School Boards and district administration need to address this issue to best meet the needs of their community.
3. It is unclear how "sensitive" is defined. This term is far to vague for school divisions to interpret. What is considered "sensitive" for one group or community, may not be the same for another.
Thank you for the opportunity to provide feedback.
