I just had my first child a few months ago, and just thinking about having to go through my third trimester with shackles on makes me shudder. I almost lost my balance several times as it was. Futhermore, to be in labor with any kind of restraint, or be forced to breastfeed or cuddle with my newborn with my arms restricted... I can't imagine. National correctional and medical associations, including the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, oppose the restraint of pregnant women because it is unnecessary and harmful to a woman and her pregnancy.  

I applaud the Board of Corrections’ approval of proposed regulations limiting the use of restraints on pregnant inmates. Thank you for implementing a compassionate and commonsense policy.  I urge the Board to include a strong public reporting requirement and make these proposed regulations final.
