Independent Service Facilitators

The independent service facility has kept my family member out of nursing home while providing financial support that our family desperately needs. This family member has schizophrenia that also has physical limitations from being in several car accidents causing pain in her neck, hips, and legs. She also developed left leg Lymphedema when a lump was removed from her breast that causes her foot to swell up limiting her mobility. Even though she does not hear loud voices on her psychiatric medication she still needs assistance for activities of daily living from bathing, using the bathroom, and help fixing her meals plus assistance being driven due to severe anxiety from being multiple motor vehicle accidents. If it was not for the independent service facility we would have given up hope and she would have without a doubt ended up in psychiatric nursing home. We need the facilitators to help bridge the gap in caring and communication because the case workers that came to house several of them didn't have patience for my family member that doesn't want to tell a stranger she needs physical assistance using the bathroom because one it is embarrassing and two the case workers are so overwhelmed they just make snapshot judgement without exploring the situation further. If we lost the independent facilitators my family would not be able to afford taking care of this family member and for sure would be a burden on the psychiatric nursing homes where care is horrible having worked in one as registered dietitian.
