We realize the Commonwealth has been placed under enormous strain by the BBB and the push by the Federal Government to institutionalize people with disabilities by withdrawing funding and support for home-based services. We would ask the Commonwealth to consider the real people behind the facts and figures before instituting changes that roll back the very real progress Virginia has made toward supporting the most vulnerable and powerless in our communities. The loss of our local service facilitators will place an additional level of bureaucracy between caregivers and needed support, adding an additional burden to the backs of people who are already bearing so much. And to what purpose? I assume there is some financial gain although we have not made privy to what is driving the change or the benefits the Commonwealth hopes to achieve. The 56 hour cap is arbitrary and does not account for the reality that many of our loved ones require around the clock care. Please stop hurting Virginians in need.
