KEEPING OXFORD

Hello my name is Paul and i have been a member at Neptune Oxford house located in Virginia Beach for 14 months now and it has absolutely saved my life and my relationships. Ive been an alcoholic for around ten years, preety much right after i lost my brother. I just never knew how to cope and move on and alcohol seemed to be the only thing to bring me happiness. But at this same time it completely ruined my life. My foundation that i built for myself was completely thrown away. i literally lost everything. Friends, fincances, apartment. but most importantly my relationship with my daughter. I didn't know what else to do i just know i needed to make a change. So i checked myself into a recovery facility. And was able to take step back from all the chaos of life and really thing about what i wanted from my life. I was able to complete 90 days there then heard about oxford and how it truly changes lives and keeps people sober.

So instead of trying to do things on my own again i applied to get into an oxford and it has honestly been the best thing i have done in years. I've been able to meet and stay with a few guys that sincerely want the best for me and want me to succeed. And that will hold me accountable if i stumble or loose my way. And being able to stay with people with the same goals as i have has truely kept eyes on the right path to become the best version of me possible. I owe oxford so much because i have been able to build a wonderful relationship again with my daughter, my parents and other brother. I've also been able to get financially stable and continue my education. and that is all down to oxford. its beliefs and ambitions for each member is not just to survive, but to thrive. and i am a living testimony of that.

I firmly believe the way we are able to self govern and grow ourselves is also vital to the process. It teaches us responsibility. How to talk to and treat others. And problem solve within ourselves. we are growing as men in this house> becuse we know we are all different but for us to succeed we have to put aside our differences and show empathy and open mindedness . And we could only do that ourselves. Oxford is at a place now where it not only is able to keep people sober. But also allow them to grow and develope as humans and productive members in society whenever we are ready to make that next step to be on our own. I know it is not for everyone. But for the people who have truely seen and have been blessed by oxord know that we would not be the same if things were different. I feel honored to be here and love the atmosphere we've created. And thats down to us as a house. by ourselves. We learn. we laugh. we love. But most importantly we grow .
