I am strongly urge the Virginia Board of Health to oppose this petition that not only aims to humiliate and further ostracize Transgender youth in our state, but due to uneducated negligence, would also effect young girls who are intersex and/or have a hormonal imbalance such as PCOS. As an LBGTQ woman suffering from a PCOS, a hormonal condition that developed in my teens, I have witnessed how detrimental it is to the community as a whole to set ridged boundaries on the basis of “biology”… something that is consistently changing for every individual with age. Approving this proposal would be a step in the wrong direction that would see cisgender and trans youth suffering at the hand of arbitrary rulings. Virginia should not tolerate paranoiac language or legislation that alienates the vulnerable.
