I am against this petition.

The assertion that the display of pride flags in public schools violates “viewpoint neutrality” reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of both the purpose of such symbols and the responsibilities of educational institutions in fostering inclusive environments. Pride flags do not promote a political agenda; they signify a commitment to the safety and dignity of LGBTQ+ students—individuals who are statistically more likely to experience bullying, mental health challenges, and marginalization in school settings.

Removing these affirming symbols under the guise of neutrality does not create an ideologically neutral space; it actively reinforces a status quo in which only dominant identities are passively affirmed. True neutrality in public education is not achieved through erasure but through representation—by ensuring that all students see themselves reflected in their environment.

In a democratic society, schools should be spaces where diversity is not only tolerated but actively supported. To suppress symbols of inclusion is not to remain neutral; it is to take a stance against the presence and rights of queer students.
