Nursing License Fee increase

I have been a nurse for over 30 years. I have yet to know just WHAT the money I pay to renew my license every two years is even for. I do not get anything out of not except for a new piece of paper with a new date attached and permission to continue working as I did the day before I renewed.
It is absolutely stunning that the state feels it needs more money from the very people that already are mistreated in the workplace, between making us park 2 miles away when there is plenty of parking available for all…(early bird gets the worm) to getting some of the WORST healthcare coverage (the irony) to just being treated like a servant that does not deserve a little respect and gratitude. Not to mention, zero retirement except for our own savings…which is nearly impossible to save money while living in the state of VA anymore. No wonder there is a shortage of nurses. I do not even get any continuing education reimbursement even though it is encouraged and in recent years, required,  per the state, to satisfy hours of continued educations hours. More money from the people who risk their lives (I just had to be tested for TB due to exposure…not to mention the Covid nightmare). I do not even qualify for the” first responder” discount at most businesses. Seriously! What are we nurses to the state other than more money?!?  This proposal needs to be stopped in its tracks. I think we should charge politicians and unelected bureaucrats a fee to destroy all that is good. Seems to be the only way to perhaps fill the void that is a constant in Government. Shame on whomever came up with the idea! Nurses deserve better!
