I think optometrists in Virginia should be allowed to perform laser treatments. It’s a bit ridiculous that other states, like California and Texas, already let their optometrists do this, while we’re still holding back. The lobbying from ophthalmologists to block this change seems more about protecting their turf than about what’s best for patients. Allowing optometrists to provide these treatments could really improve access to care and help folks get the eye services they need without long waits.
