Laser procedures have been performed by optometrists since the 1990s.  Optometrists must be certified before performing laser procedures on patients.  Certification requires extensive clinical experience, hands-on training, and passing a national certification exam.

Draft regulations as presented were developed with input from optometry and ophthalmology, and should be supported.
