My optometrist is wonderful and when I had to have a laser for my risk for glaucoma, I asked her to do it. She explained to me that she was not allowed to and referred me to an ophthalmologist. This doctor did not know me and barely knew my history. I did not like our interaction as it was very transactional and I would much rather trust someone who has been protecting and restoring my vision for years vs someone who just sees me as a quick case. The laser was more of a procedure vs any surgery. It was in office and I know my optometrist would have done just as good of a job. I support this bill for the comfort and access of patients not for the surgeons to think I'm not important enough of a patient as their high paying cataract or LASIK patients.
