Preserving quality of care

I am quite shocked at the notion that the same quality of care can arise from a non surgical practitioner who doesn’t have a medical degree.  There are layers of complexity to diagnostics that come with years of surgical training in order to avoid and manage potential complications.  Optometrists are not held to the same standard of training or board certification and have very little background in managing systemic diseases.  Choosing the wrong candidate for a procedure who may have a preexisting condition that is a contraindication is one of many concerning scenarios that I can list.  We are supposed to be a country that provides unmatched medical care and should never make that compromise as part of our Hippocratic oath.
