People in Pain Aren't Criminals

I wanted to leave a comment about the proposal to criminalize kratom. Kratom is a safe painkiller that is controversial mainly because it can't be patented and doesn't make millions for a pharmaceutical company. People who use pain medication are not degenerate losers or lawless creeps. They're people who have pain. They're your parents, your children, your friends and probably you in the future if not yet, given the rapid increase of chronic disease worldwide. Whether physical, mental or emotional, usually a combination of both, this pain's cause is rooted in a huge fortune of some industry that poisons the world for profit, whether food, chemicals, weapons, plastics, etc. In other words, modern life. But instead of regulating industries with money, power and lawyers, it is easier to punish kratom users who are simply trying to function and cope with their chronic pain. I get that it's easier, but is it fair or humane? How about stepping up to the plate and facing problems head on? Or is that too much to ask?
