Moratorium on Menhaden Reduction Fishing

Menhaden reduction fishing should not be allowed in our Chesapeake Bay as with any other state on the East Coast.  Such regulations have been long overdue.  Our natural resources should not be abused to fund a Canadian or even non-Virginia based company, and at expense of those who live here, pay taxes, and enjoy the wildlife and our environment.  Additionally, there are far too many regulated game fish consequently harvested through this fishery.  While accusations have been made that equipment used to harvest menhaden allows for larger gamefish to escape, there is much evidence that proves otherwise. Numerous fish kills have been documented over the years, including most recently hundreds if not thousands of redfish that washed up on the Eastern Shore and Oceanview shoreline after a commercial menhaden boat mistakenly netted a large school of these fish, only to then dump the net after realizing their mistake.  This is not the first time this has happened. Meanwhile, a recreational or commercial fisherman would face steep fines, and legal action for only possessing one over the regulated limit.  This type of fishing has no place in our bay.
