I STRONGLY SUPPORT this Petition!

I strongly support this petition. It is concerning that the Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC) appears to have neglected Virginia Code 28.2-203, which advocates for conservation and management measures based on the best scientific information available, when it comes to Omega Protein and the menhaden stock in the Chesapeake Bay. Numerous peer-reviewed publications have outlined the decline in osprey productivity in the Chesapeake Bay, surpassing levels observed during the DDT era. This mismanagement of fishing resources by the VMRC and the ecological impact of overfishing of menhaden in the Chesapeake Bay has been documented by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and in sworn testimony before the VMRC. Effective management of the fish stocks is paramount to safeguard the resources in the Chesapeake Bay for future generations. This needs to happen now!
