As I understand the proposed change, any organization (religious or otherwise) would have to forfeit their license if they discriminate against homosexual couples.
I say: Good!
Why would we want children being subjected to discriminatory organizations during the process of finding a loving home? Does anyone really think that a child has formed his or her opinion about sexuality, or cares what gender his parents are going to be? Not likely – they care about being in a home where they are loved.
I encourage all so-called “faith-based” adoptive services (who don’t want to serve gay Virginians) to close down and make room for more acceptable organizations to open up and replace them. The decrease in services that children see in the short term will pale in comparison to the long-term benefits realized by allowing good and decent gay couples to adopt children. And closing down an organization which think it is ok to discriminate is a moral good anyway so, win/win!
