Many religious people believe strongly that homosexual activity is wrong. Since supporting or facillitating the adoption of children by homosexual couples implies that homosexual activity is not wrong, many Catholics, including myself, cannot in conscience lend such support.
The consequence of this regulatory action will be that many Catholic adoption services will be unable to continue to help families, and especially to help women in difficult pregnancies.
The consequence of not taking this action? Well, some homosexuals' feelings will be hurt. But if they want to adopt a child, there is no reason why they can't do it through other channels.
No one would go to a Kosher butcher and expects him to sell pork. No one would enter a Muslim-run thrift shop and look for bikinis. No one would go to Potawa Palace and complain because the devotional offerings didn't include crucifixes. Have a little respect for a Catholic's conscience!
