Firearms in forests

It is the right of every US Citizen to carry a firearm for personal protection. Virginia needs to change the rules and allow the open and concealed carry of firearms in a state or national forest.

Most states already allow this. There is absolutely no good reason for a state to prevent citizens from carrying a firearm for personal protection. What is so special about a forest? Criminals carry anywhere they want, why should a law abiding citizen be held accountable for the actions of criminals?
