As a parent in Henrico County, I am appalled by this plan. I trust teachers to do the jobs they were trained and hired to do. The best teachers open their students’ minds to the world. Being exposed to other people’s stories through books, films and other works (fiction or non) is an important part of the learning experience. This plan does nothing but create red tape bureaucracy for schools. And where does this end? Certainly not with “sexually explicit material.” Will we next see policies for parents to opt their children out of lesson s on evolution, slavery, climate change, etc? It’s creating censorship and disparity in the classroom, where neither should be. This is NOT necessary. TRUST TEACHERS.
