STRONGLY SUPPORT

In my years of teaching, it was understood that the parent’s were our bosses, that they had the final say in their Children’s education. Progress is made when this mindset was paired with their trust in our discernment and openness of communication with them. This is basic respect for the institution of family and household. Parent’s pay tax dollars, and other expenses for someone to teach their child, they are in some means therefore, a customer. They deserve to know what their children are learning.

One of the misguided arguments against this law is that it would quiet stories of people of color, the story used as example is the controversy of Morrison’s The Bluest Eye. This is a book I love - however, my book club read it this year & women whose median age was 35 were deeply distressed by the graphic sexual content - including rape and pedophilia. It is not a matter of giving children a sanitized view of the world, but rather when is it age appropriate. Furthermore, if the reason is truly to educate students about these horrors, they will need the parents at home to be aware to help students grapple with harsh realities.
