Students should have access to books in the schools that broaden their world view and provide them with the ability to empathize with others. Censorship is a slippery slope that results in a populace that is uneducated and judgmental. All parents have the right should they have a concern about specific content to opt out. Their beliefs should not infringe upon the rights of the other children in that classroom to have a broader perspective and comprehensive education. It is not the right nor the role of the government to censor what is being taught in our classrooms. As a parent, I want my kids to be able to be exposed to rich text, fine art, and challenging ideas in their public education classroom.
