Parents, teachers, and students are partners that must work together toward outcomes that are productive for the student. Students bear the burden of bad decisions, even life long consequences. Teachers have short term authority as a public employee but parents bear responsibility for the long term care of the individual student and must therefore have rights commensurate to their obligations. Teachers are due respect but forfeit that respect or autonomy if they attempt to usurp parental authority.
