Teachers and librarians incorporating age-appropriate, diverse texts into their classrooms and curricula need to be able to do so uninterrupted by parental backlash. Students need exposure to this content to learn about the breadth and variety of human experience, and the moral panic that lead to the passage of this bill threatens decades of work on developing more inclusive educational environments.
If parents would like to contextualize this information for their children in a way that reflects their own worldview, they are welcome to do so. That should not prevent their children from learning in a classroom environment and honing their ability to think for themselves as well-rounded citizens.
