I have long been an advocate for general, factual and biological sex ed. There are unfortunately, many parents who do not feel comfortable with this conversation or do not know themselves how to approach it. However teaching children about their reproductive organs, health, conception, the importance of safe sex and protection from disease is vastly different from pornographic graphics, sexual positions, blatantly discussing anal or oral sex, sexual kinks and same sex demographics. That is sexual grooming, sexualizing our children and promoting promiscuity. All of which are the absolute opposite of why sex education classes began. All of which will cause harm to our children emotionally and physically. Even teenagers are not mentally prepared for everything that comes along with a sexual relationship. These are things adults learn as they get older, not to be taught to children. It should be basic and science based. Period.
Public school should be provided for the basic knowledge and education a child needs to thrive in a community. For years educational leaders have been abusing this standard and taken it upon themselves to educate other peoples children in the ideas and concepts they deem necessary without the knowledge and permission of the parents. I DID NOT GIVE UP MY RIGHTS AS A PARENTS BECAUSE I HAVE THEM IN PUBLIC SCHOOL. The morals, standards and fundamental principles I want my child to be nurtured with are MY JOB. It is the school and teachers job to educate my children on Math, English, History and Science. Sex Education is part of science. If a child has more questions regarding sexual behaviors a teacher should direct them to their counselor, who can then determine the nature of their questions, and then CONTACT THE PARENTS, and make them aware of the questions so that the PARENTS, can answer their child’s questions in the way they see fit for their family, faith, the child’s age and overall moral appropriateness.
Lastly, children are fickle, we all know this. I have seen the harm caused by sexual ignorance, I have also seen the harm caused by too much sexual awareness. Especially at the wrong age. We all know with children, give them an inch, they will take a mile. This information is not helping our children. It’s hurting them and giving them everything they need to take the mile.
