Model Policies Concerning Instructional Materials Containing Sexual Explicit Materials

To all parties concerned,

After reading through the current policy I would like to make an additional, and I believe necessary, amendment.  As written, this policy requires educators to give "advanced notice" to parents when sexually explicit materials are to be presented to the students.   This language is far too ambiguous and causes interpretation to be subjective - advanced notice to one educator may be 6 hours, perhaps half an hour for another.   I would like to request boundaries be placed on exactly how much advanced notice must be given.  In this instance parents need ample time to not only review the materials, but also respond to the school with their desired choice for their child(ben).  Knowing that curriculums are created months in advance, it would not be difficult for schools to notify parents with 21-30 days advanced notice.

Thank you for allowing our input,

Chris Reyna
