Guidance Document Change: In 2021, the Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 1904 and Senate Bill 1196, and was signed into law by Governor Northam. The law establishes new requirements to support culturally competent educators in the Commonwealth. The Guidance on Cultural Competency Training for Teachers and Other Licensed School Board Employees in Virginia Public Schools was developed for the Board to fulfill the statutory mandate to provide guidance on the minimum standards for the local training requirement.

CRT IS NECESSARY!

It's so important for educators, the ones shaping our future generations, to be culturally aware of all the inequalities and biases that are in place today. Understanding and respecting everyone's cultural background can be extremely comforting and helpful towards developing an open-mind, basic human consideration for others, and respect for others with different backgrounds. Those without that training or exposure are the ones who are ignorantly disrespecting other people's cultures and backgrounds without understanding the continuing history of pain, hardships, loss, injustice, and more. Our educators, who are shaping our future generations, must be culturally aware and competent for the sake of bringing unity within the U.S. once again.
