Guidance Document Change: In 2021, the Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 1904 and Senate Bill 1196, and was signed into law by Governor Northam. The law establishes new requirements to support culturally competent educators in the Commonwealth. The Guidance on Cultural Competency Training for Teachers and Other Licensed School Board Employees in Virginia Public Schools was developed for the Board to fulfill the statutory mandate to provide guidance on the minimum standards for the local training requirement.

Ethnic studies —YES. KNOW SELVE, NO KNOWLEGE

As a socio-political pan-Asian organization, the purposes of our org are:

- To work for the development of race theory courses/curricula as a core component to the American Studies major, in order to strengthen the Asian American Studies concentration within the Department, and to ultimately establish Asian American Studies as a major.

- To increase awareness of political issues of importance to the community of people of Asian descent and Pacific Islanders in America.

- To cultivate a sense of cohesion and community among the Asian and Asian American Pacific Islander student body.
