Guidance Document Change: In 2021, the Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 1904 and Senate Bill 1196, and was signed into law by Governor Northam. The law establishes new requirements to support culturally competent educators in the Commonwealth. The Guidance on Cultural Competency Training for Teachers and Other Licensed School Board Employees in Virginia Public Schools was developed for the Board to fulfill the statutory mandate to provide guidance on the minimum standards for the local training requirement.

History is best taught using original sources, not from opinions written by people today. Teach students how to obtain as many original resources as possible on some historical topic, then they can form their own opinions. To intentionally hold students back, by not teaching them how to obtain all facts and then skills needed to critically weigh the facts, is indoctrination. The VDOE vision is "to maximize the potential of all learners," so why are you not MAXIMIZING their ability to learn? Are you afraid they might teach themselves you are wrong?
