Guidance Document Change: In 2021, the Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 1904 and Senate Bill 1196, and was signed into law by Governor Northam. The law establishes new requirements to support culturally competent educators in the Commonwealth. The Guidance on Cultural Competency Training for Teachers and Other Licensed School Board Employees in Virginia Public Schools was developed for the Board to fulfill the statutory mandate to provide guidance on the minimum standards for the local training requirement.

No to CRT and Cultural Competency training requirement for teachers

As a former teacher, I think we need to get back to the basics....reading, writing, math, science, PE, history, civics, life skills. When children are taught to think and have skills to take care of themselves and knowledge to help them build their confidence and learn on their own, we will have accomplished a lot. Politics should be left at the door and teachers should not be creating mini selves in the classroom. Teachers can be role models by treating all students the same in grading, discipline, respectful attitude and professional behavior toward other staff members.

Teaching isn't an easy job . I know because I taught for 31 years. Our teachers need to know their subject matter and how to teach it. Constantly adding to their list of to do's just waters down their time and ability to focus on what is truly important.
