Guidance Document Change: In 2021, the Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 1904 and Senate Bill 1196, and was signed into law by Governor Northam. The law establishes new requirements to support culturally competent educators in the Commonwealth. The Guidance on Cultural Competency Training for Teachers and Other Licensed School Board Employees in Virginia Public Schools was developed for the Board to fulfill the statutory mandate to provide guidance on the minimum standards for the local training requirement.

Commenter: Concerned Student

Why?

Why are we concerned with race and cultural differences and not our students needs. As a class president I promised all of my fellow classmates that I would look out for them. No student that I have talked to is concerned with discrimination or cultural differences. They are concerned about taking test and passing them, they want to have teachers that teach them about writing and math not about how white people are born racist or that America is systematically racist . This document is nothing but a plot to turn students against each other. As a student and class president I will not stand for it. And I can tell you if this policy is implemented VA public schools will see a tremendous drop in enrollment, and private schools will be booming because they don’t have to adopt these racist nonsense policies.
