Guidance Document Change: In 2021, the Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 1904 and Senate Bill 1196, and was signed into law by Governor Northam. The law establishes new requirements to support culturally competent educators in the Commonwealth. The Guidance on Cultural Competency Training for Teachers and Other Licensed School Board Employees in Virginia Public Schools was developed for the Board to fulfill the statutory mandate to provide guidance on the minimum standards for the local training requirement.

Another CRT wolf in sheep’s clothing

On the surface, “Cultural Competency Training” sounds not only harmless, but beneficial. What could possibly be wrong in training educators with the “capacity to understand their own cultural identity, understand the different dimensions of diversity, and use those dimensions of diversity to foster academic achievement, growth, and empowerment for all students.” (VA-DOE’s definition of “cultural competency” – p. 3)

Likewise, the definitions of “Socialism” and “Communism” both sound innocuous and even advantageous to the untrained eye. But to those who comprehend otherwise or have personally experienced their implementation, the tangible results of these political theories prove demonstrably catastrophic.

It would be wise in this matter to remember that though we can’t judge a book by its cover, we can “know them by their fruit.” If this past year has taught me anything, it has provided me with the sad understanding that generally speaking, the public education system has been infiltrated by a number of disconcerting and fallacious ideologies that subtly seeks to indoctrinate our children with caustic ideas and beliefs that betray our true American ideals and prove anathema to our Judeo-Christian heritage.

While I trust there are several teachers and administrators who truly want to educate and uplift our children, numerous instances recently brought to light, affirm that there are far too many who remain hell bent on fully incorporating these pernicious philosophies into our K-12 schools, implementing them under the guise of harmless sounding programs like “Cultural Competency”, “Social Emotional Learning” (SEL) and “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.”

Cultural Competency Training is nothing more than another Critical Race Theory (CRT) wolf in sheep’s clothing and it must be rejected.
