Guidance Document Change: In 2021, the Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 1904 and Senate Bill 1196, and was signed into law by Governor Northam. The law establishes new requirements to support culturally competent educators in the Commonwealth. The Guidance on Cultural Competency Training for Teachers and Other Licensed School Board Employees in Virginia Public Schools was developed for the Board to fulfill the statutory mandate to provide guidance on the minimum standards for the local training requirement.

No presumed racial biases in teachings/teach facts not opinions

Teachers should not be encouraged to view students in a presumed way.  Just as students' intelligence, aptitude or creativity is not based on color, race, or gender, they should not be prejudged in any other way on this basis.  This is a return to segregation!  Classes should not be divided by such factors - they should be taught based on their personal ability and strengths.  Teachers have enough to do to teach core education.  They don't need this interpersonal bias included in any part of the curriculum.
