Guidance Document Change: In 2021, the Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 1904 and Senate Bill 1196, and was signed into law by Governor Northam. The law establishes new requirements to support culturally competent educators in the Commonwealth. The Guidance on Cultural Competency Training for Teachers and Other Licensed School Board Employees in Virginia Public Schools was developed for the Board to fulfill the statutory mandate to provide guidance on the minimum standards for the local training requirement.

How can this even be effectively implemented (addendum)

Adding to be my previous comment, I believe for sure that racism exists in our society.   Do I believe that every time someone looks wonky at a person who has been define by others to be different that it's a "micro-aggression"?  No.  Have I witnessed myself how 25 years ago how my future mother in law was treated very differently in a store when for a moment she and I got separated?  Yes.  Do I believe that depending on how someone looks they might be treated differently?  Yes.  As a former northerner did I have no clue until 5 year agoyes where the Southside Confederate monuments actually came from ?  Yes.  Did I until a year ago also have no clue that the projects were created under the new deal primarily to promote white working class yo the next level?  No...i knew that mortgage practices were previously racist and probably still are (though far less egregiously) but I had no idea that otherwise upwardly mobile blacks got trapped there because they could not get mortgages.  Would it have been valuable for  me as a high school college student to learn from others what these monuments actually stood for, the dark side of the new deal not told...by all means 100% yes.  And I would want my children to hear that.  But this policy just sounds like it wants to glaze over things so as not to offend anyone.  I again say bring people in from the community who lived these things ( are there any left?) Bring in other experts.  Have them tell their stories. Have students tell stories they may have been told by parents and grandparents.   Keep it respectful.  Teachers dont have to be trained.  We all learn from everyone else's experience..please dont shut down respectful dialogue.
